Off-Campus at Binobong High School

by Van Henriech S. Huerno

In preparation for the practicum, I conditioned myself with the possible situations I might encounter in the process thinking that I’d be ready and would know what to do in unexpected circumstances during the off-campus. But none of the preparation and mind setting that I have done has worked in the actual practicum. I realized that none of the practices and demonstration teaching could prepare me for the field. All it did was serve as a guide as to how we should deal with every situations in the school.

Personally, I believe that having been deployed in the Binobong High School gave me a grasp of how a small and low budgeted school are managed and it is way too far from my expectations. It made me realize that teaching is not about the salary, position or personal fulfilment but teaching is about your students wanting to learn. Binobong High School may not have the worst situation but I saw the need of students to attain education. My experience made me see how vital our role as a teacher is and how we should be serious about it. One of my unforgettable experience is having to teach computer subjects without actually using computers; while I learn from my other classmates deployed in other schools that their school administrators wouldn’t let students use their computer laboratory. I felt furious about it. While we are in need and deprived of the privilege to use computers, others are wasting the privilege they have. It only made my aspiration to become a teacher strong. I want to help children to learn and my experience in Binobong High School strengthen my desire to do just that.
