What Went Wrong and What Went Right during the Off-Campus Teaching

by: Nina D. Monge

I didn’t forgot the first day of my off-campus teaching, December 1, 2015 to be exactly. New colleagues, teachers, students and environment. I felt a little bit sad because my parents didn’t saw me wore my off-campus teaching uniform but its ok I used it as my inspiration.  When I was arrived at Binobong High School I am excited. The faculty of Binobong High School welcome us with a big smile.

Teachers should always prepared not only in their lessons but as well as to the behaviours of the students. My first impression to the students of BHS are respectful and kind and first impression lasts. As the days goes by I was feel more comfortable to my co-student teachers, teachers, students and to the people living in Binobong Pili. I learned on how to interact to the different behaviours of the students. I am lucky because I have 2 cooperating teachers who supervised me throughout our journey as a pre-service teacher. I felt very nervous during our first week of teaching. Teaching was very challenging. I was given the opportunity to teach that was not related to my major field of specialization which is the Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (ESP) and it is more challenging because I was taught it to the grade 7 students. I find some difficulties in supervision to the class as it was hard to explain the concept. I was made a big adjustment so that I can deliver the lesson clearly and interactive. Upon reaching the fourth grading period another big challenge to me because from grade 10 students I will now teach grade 9 students and their lesson was physics and more computation will be done. But my fear in computation now it turned into my strength because I study it on how to compute problems and with the help also of my cooperating teachers who are very supportive. I salute to them because of their words of wisdom that always in my mind and I can use for my future career as a professional teacher. As the days progressed I gained much of confident on how to be a good facilitator of learning.

I learned lots of things about in school setting and I found my weaknesses and I turned it as my strength. I had lots of experience being a pre-service teacher whether it is good or bad I know it helps me a lot to become a better teacher.
